Application for the Colorado Method Capital Voir Dire Federal Program
Tuesday, January 26 — Thursday, January 28, 2027
Baltimore, Maryland
Co-Sponsored by the Federal Capital Trial Project and the National College of Capital Voir Dire
APPLICATIONS TO THE JANUARY 2027 PROGRAM WILL BE ACCEPTED BEGINNING IN SEPTEMBER 2026
The two-and-a-half day long program will begin at 8:00 am on Tuesday, January 26, and end at 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 28, 2027.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning on September 1, 2026, and applicants will be notified if they are accepted, placed on the waitlist, or encouraged to apply to a future program. When an individual is accepted into the program, the Federal Capital Trial Project will send an email with instructions about making travel and lodging arrangements.
Some limited scholarship funding will be available. You may make the request for a scholarship below in the application form.
The program is designed for attorneys to learn and practice capital voir dire. Non-attorney team members - paralegals, investigators, mitigation specialists, and others - are encouraged to register and join their team to learn the method and support the team in developing the Special Juror Questionnaire, rating jurors, and preparing for and conducting skilled and effective voir dire. The non-attorney team members attend the lectures and then participate in the small group breakout sessions as mock jurors (they will not be practicing the questioning methods in the small groups).
Space is limited for attorney and non-attorney team members so please register early.
After you are registered you will receive another email with information about how to access the program materials and the articles you are asked to read prior to the start of the program. Participants who spend several hours reading these materials ahead of the program learn the method and pick up the skills and techniques much more quickly.
